I bought a carbon fiber hood for my car and it is badly faded. Can someone tell me the steps of bringing the life back to the hood? I also need to know what to do about the corner...
Try wetsanding the hood. with a high grit sand paper such as 1500 or so..maybe start with 1000 grit then use 1500 grit. After wetsanding the entire hood, buff it with some rubbing compound and polishing compound to smooth the scratches. I would do a final polish on the hood with some 3m finess-it compound. It will remove any swirls you have from buffing, buff on a low speed also.
it worked pretty good. right after i did it it looked awsome, but faded again pretty quickly. i've talked to people that had the same problem and they recommended sanding it down and having it re-cleared. i ended up selling the hood before i had that done. good luck. post up some results if you find somthing that works!
thanks for all the help guys. i will hopefuly get the hood from greyhound soon and i will try to polish and wax first. If it is beyond that i will wetsand and polish.
If anybody else has any ideas just let me know.
now when u redo it dont push hard ether u will crack it and u will be fucked..if u need help...hit up ur family friend that paints shit.. also sanding it down then buffing and then clear will work the best....
You can talk shit all you want! eventually noone will care about your input. :yo:
take it to a body shop that has delt with carbon before. it sucks up clear and you will end up with hundreds of tiny pinholes that will need to be filled in.

That's no joke. They're a bitch to fill in, too. That happened to my last cf hood, and it was a nightmare.
Ribs. I had ribs for lunch, that's why I'm doing this.

the gel coat is what causes the hood to fade in the first place. the shop im kind of connected with recommends having all new pieces cleared before you put them on just so you dont have to deal with it in the future. if the gel coat is to badly clouded it may not be able to be sanded out.
