my car..ebrake failure...tree

Post by g3integragsr »

hoekay....so last night/early this morning, myself, Jeff Le (DC2_Dorthy), Erik Le (eh2_erik) and a few other friends showed up at a buddys grad party. So anyway it was about 1 am when we got there, the driveway started off downhill then went uphill to a turnaround infront of the garage. Jeff pulls in infront of me and I park in the driveway right next to the garage..........
Image[/IMG]
I parked where this pic was taken (notice how long the driveway is)....so abouts 1 we show up, park, talk to a few folkers, then head to the party in the basement......abouts 15 minutes later a fine lady comes downstairs and says that a white car just hit a tree.....I was dumbfounded because at the time there were only two white cars....guess who's......then some random person shouted back and asked if it was the white one with red wheels.....answer....NO!!! My reaction.....FUCK! So I book it outside to see my car way the flippen hell down the driveway at an angle with a bunch of peoples standing around it. So I was like...wtf mate? and headed down to the scene of excitement....upon walking to the big crowd I passed this.......
Image[/IMG]
then I was like well this is gonna suck.....so I see this......

Image[/IMG]

(at the time the lights werent on) then everyone is like...who's car is this...and Im like OOOOhhhh....its mine.
As Im walking to the side of my car that hit the tree, somebody was said that it just started rolling....slow at first...then jumped this.......

Image[/IMG]

hit this.......
Image[/IMG]

ricochede (sp?) off the tree and started rolling down the hill again. It however miracously stopped itself right in the middle of the driveway...right before hitting an electrical box.
So I walk around my car with my tele as my only light and see this.......
Image[/IMG]
....and this....
Image[/IMG]
and....
Image[/IMG]

So then I was mad but happy at the same time because I was really expecting a whole lot worse....Luckily nobody was behind it or walking up the driveway at the time. Here are a couple morning shots with some light.......
Image[/IMG]
Image[/IMG]
Image[/IMG]
and just for another reference, where my car ended up at...(it was right next to the garage door)..
Image[/IMG]

Now...someone please explain to me how a parking brake, properly adjusted can let go...allow the car to roll down hill...jump a curb, hit a tree then just flat stop in the middle of the driveway?
And for the record I do not park my car in gear because I have a remote starter on it....and no I did not hit the button to cause the car to do this, it just happened. So Im just thankful nobody got hurt, and Im just going to let the insurance company fix this one, I don't feel like doing anymore bodywork for a while.

sorry to hear about the car. luckily its just cosmetic and not anything prohibiting you from driving the car.

was the car locked and windows rolled up? just wondering because if they werent, maybe someone thought it would be funny to watch the car go downhill by taking the ebrake off and letting it roll. then stopping it.

i know its unlikely, but possible

the e-brake was pulled all the way up because it was such a steep hill, the windows were up and the doors were locked....it was a party with about 150 people. There were only about 7 people sitting in the driveway just talking and drinking, they said they looked over and it just started rolling, nobody by it

Check your pads, and ebrake wires. Let this be a lesson to also turn your wheels when you're parked on a hill so the car will roll into the grass/not downhill. You should know that already, but most people forget it.

My pads still have about 70% life left to them. I never pay any attention to turning my wheels when parking, I guess now I will. Luckily when the car hit the curb, it pushed the car to the....left I guess and out of the way of completely hitting the tree. If it wasnt for the curb to shift the car over it would of been a whole lot worse
