Depends on if you got OEM or not...When I replaced mine just recently, they asked me if I wanted one that failed open or closed, I chose open, of course. But this was not OEM. Just making sure you can rule out the thermo from being the problem again.

the gasket could be it or what happend to my friends 240 what that the block had a sight crack in it.......that would make it over heat...hope that its not that...head gasket makes it work ur lucky....if not ur looking to rebuild i hope.....im sure with 99blackhatch and chris and u working on it u will find ur problem....

a blown head gasket doesnt always mean smoking and such symptoms, those are the worst because of the effects they have(coolant in the combustion chamber doesnt compress) it sounds like your head gasket is leaking oil into your coolant, hence why your coolant is black, and you have no oil. ive never done it on a honda before, but if you can close your valves(on gm v6s i always remove rocker arms) and do a cylinder leak down. this puts air into the cylinder and has a pressure gauge on the other end so you can see if you are loeaking any gasses. if your headgasket is blown, you will hear a noise similar to a water bong.

i added more oil to the car and took it for a test run. just did a small 60-100 run and still overheating. if its not the head gasket (which i'm really hoping its not), the only other thing i can think of is my water pump is failing. This car is starting to piss me off.
