gear grinding

when i try to shift quickly at a high rpm from 2nd to third only i hear and feel a slight gear grind why only in third and what is the cause ? any ideas?

because your 3rd gear synchro is trashed

and also expect the syncro spring, syncro hub, and dogteeh on the gears to be trashed...unless it JUST started grinding and youre getting it fixed before you grind it anymore.

negative! syncros are all the same no matter which gear. the little honda racers just dont know how to properly drive.

negative! syncros are all the same no matter which gear. the little honda racers just dont know how to properly drive.

Ownage.

You can say that Honda syncros are not the problem, but Honda's second and third gears are junk. Theres a reason why all post 2001 Honda and Acura 6-Speeds have a TSB on 3rd gear grinds. Ask any RSX-S owner.

x2, EP3s have the same issue. as do the new si's.

hhaaha i thought about that when i posted that.

i meant oem honda syncros not junk ass gearspeed stuff. the carbon coating made it very hard for the syncro to move at all so they grinded from the very get go and a few hundred miles later and said fuck them. cool points for you though!!

and again im not talking about newer hondas.. if you ever notice i never talk about newer hondas. im stricly a 2000 and older guy.

guess i need to add alot more specifics to my posts next time.

Speaking of specifics, the OP should probably disclose exactly what trans they are having issues with. One may assume that they have an 01 Prelude but with all these people talking of K series trannies, I am thinking they know something we don't. If it is a lude, all the talk of K series trannies is pretty much null and void since it's a totally different trans. Apples to apples.....

Not ALL Honda synchros suck. B series VTEC's have dual 2nd gear synchro. CTR/ITR have multiple dual synchros.
