Timing Belt

Post by iStick »

Lastnite I bought a new timing belt and put it on my 93 Prelude Si 2.3L when testing it out before putting the water pump and altenator belt back on my car was idiling really high and then after the 1st iginiton try it wouldnt start the same... What could be wrong? I was thinking maybe the timing is off by a hair and needs to be adjusted? Any suggestions?

You probably didn't install the belt correctly, and now your engine is out of time.

So basically all I need to do is re-time the belt?

Make sure your mechanical timing is on first. Get the engine to TDC, check the timing marks on your crank pulley, and on the cam gears.

And make sure you rotate the motor by hand using the crank pulley and that all of your timing marks are still lined up after doing so.
