weird vtec timeing help!
i just bought a 98 civic ex with a d165y. the issue im havin is that my vtech is kicking in at 5500 rpm and not 4300-4500 rang. it make the car poopy slow untill vtec kicks in then its a hole nother beast. but also im having a idle surge at 1600 rpm . iv changed idle corntrol valve, tps, cleaned everything and still nothing. dose anyone have an idea wat could be going on ie computer or other sensor issues? the surge is only at 1600 rpm with little bit of throttle. wat do i check next

Are you using the P2N ECU for the D16Y5?

There should be a tag on the side of the ECU. It should have a part number reading 37820-xxx-xxx. What are the letters and numbers in the 'x' spot?lil_italy;283093 wrote:not to sure i opened it up and was looking to see if it was chipped but it dont have any were to put a chip in seems like

Yep, that's the wrong ECU. The D16Y5 is a pretty unique engine design and the matching ECU is a must have item. Is the car automatic or manual?lil_italy;283136 wrote:its 37820-P2P-A81
Edit: I assume an automatic based on your current ECU part number. Is that correct?
