Cleaned the TB and IM, can't get gasket off!!!

Post by lagwagon21 »

Hello, I had a leak in the intake manifold gasket on my hatch, so I removed everything, needed cleaned anyway. Since I have the TB off, I cleaned it like new(no more sticky throttle). Also going to clean the intake like new and paint it black, I'll post pics when it's done:)
I don't want to grind the old gasket off, so I was wondering if the gasket remover spray at Autozone help to soften up the old gasket? It is on there like cement!

Thanks, Chad

Yeah use a gasket scraper (razor blade). Just takes some elbow grease.

Ok, I scraped it for about an hour last night. Then I said there has to be a better way! Guess not. WD40 did help soften it a bit though.

Use some lacquer thinner...it'll eat it right off there...

Bristle disk on a die grinder will take it right off.

Did all the above! Just a little more to go on the block then it will all be off! There are some little scratches on the manifold. What should I finish sand it with?

There are a couple deeper nicks on the manifold. Not too bad though. I got her all cleaned up.

You can use some emery cloth to finish sand it...
