yes it can still run good. It will just noticably run hot after you get into boost a few times.
The air will push itself into the coolant chambers.....and well.....air doesn't keep these motors under temp very well.
I've always used oem gaskets. For more insurance, look to get some head studs.

I'm not try in to be sound re-tarted or come off ignorant,or and say the same thing twice, but you sayin the best gasket is oem or that's just what you recommend? because obviously the internet is flooded with Honda head gasket advice some say thicker is better, and some say use oem. I personally would see using oem I would think under boost with a thicker gasket would have more weak spots and be more prone to blowing out the material.Viper;228970 wrote:yes it can still run good. High hp people use oem (600+) with good results. I'm sure there are other gaskets that work just as well. I've always used oem gaskets and tried to also use head studs....I've ran for the past few years without what you are describing (at 15-17psi).maxboost92;229229 wrote:I'm not try in to be sound re-tarted or come off ignorant,or and say the same thing twice, but you sayin the best gasket is oem or that's just what you recommend? because obviously the internet is flooded with Honda head gasket advice some say thicker is better, and some say use oem. OEM Honda multi layer gaskets are the way to go for sure. As Viper said they have been well proven on alot of high hp cars.
If the system is bled properly and there is no air present to start with yet your ending up with air pockets in the system after some boost and it cools off... sounds like its a headgasket. I fought with a similar issue at some point and thats what it was does to some undertorqued headstuds (my own fault). Car would not overheat but it was pushing a little excess coolant to the overflow and would not recover it when cooled off fully. I would find even after bleeding the system a half dozen times that it would have large air pockets in the cooling system when I would check it once cooled down after a drive.... etc. Was the head lifting a little when I would get up on the boost a bit.
