Need advice!
Hi my name is James and I'm new here i just bought my civic and i need help badly I'm previously a ls-1 owner, well i still own it I just love my civic a whole lot more and i need advice I'm having overheating issues OK If I drive it normal i can go anywhere I drove it home from Ohio and it was great, But if I even think about getting on the gas a little it, takes a few min but before I know it I'm smelling antifreeze and its hot as hell but if I stop getting on it, after a minute it cools back down, the fan comes on, the thermostat opens, and just recently under boost it started throwing oil Ive been thinking about taking the head off and having it checked, but I thought if it has a warped head it would just overheat and not cool down, I feel like it dangerous to have fun with cuz like i said it runs just fine till i get on it, I would like to address them before detonation i feel like if i keep running like i do(cuz it gets hot) i will ruin it so if you can do that i would appreciate it.

Sounds like the thermostat, not leaking any fluids?

if youre getting more volume into your antifreeze, or what seems to be air bubbles, it sounds like your headgasket is bad. that or your lifting your head when you get into boost. or a combination of both.
or if the antifreeze isnt getting air bubbles in it or seems to be increasing in volume it could be as simple as pulling the timing in the tune or not tuned correctly.

Any idea what your AFR and EGT's are? Sounds like it's running lean when you're getting into boost. I had the same problem with my car at one point. Once I got my wideband and saw where more fuel needed to be added, my problem went away.

simple test I always did
1. bleed your coolant system of all air
2. When you are sure there is no air in the coolant system, drive the car
3. Get into boost a few times. Watch to see your temp go up above normal (not real high though).
4. Let car cool down enough to open the radiator cap.
5. Open radiator cap.
6. Profit.
7. Omit step 6.
8. If you heard a release of pressure from the radiator (should be air pressure, not coolant), then rickles already described your problem.
I have had headgasket issues before and this "check" worked 90% of the time, all the time.

Well I filled up the radiator and ran the car got under boost a few times and when I got home and opened the radiator It let out 2 seconds of hot steam and then coolant started coming out. If the head gasket was leaking would it still run good, because it runs good, I think it might be the tune but I dont wanna chance it. I think im just gonna pull the head have the deck checked, and replace all gaskets, thermostat and Id like to get a new radiator .whats the best head gasket for boost?Qui-Gon Jinn;228602 wrote:simple test I always did
