Hawker Odyssey PC680?

Post by chunney »

Probably doesn't belong in engine tech, but I didn't want to put it in A/V, anyways... I believe my odyssey PC680 bit the dust. It was completely dead yesterday so I picked up a schumacher SC-1200A charger and charged it to full. Started right up, pulled out of my garage, and parked it on the street.

6 hours later I went to start it and got nothing but dim dash lights.. charged it up again. After the charge was complete the voltage tester on the charger read 14.3 volts but the battery continued to drop, 14.2, 14.1, 14, 13.9 etc every few seconds. Is the battery toast or how can I tell?

The battery will probably only hold 12-12.5v at rest. Check the voltage before you try to start it......and if the motor will crank, check the voltage while cranking (under load). The voltage probably drops like a rock.

Well it's a drycell and from what I read it should hold a constant 14.3 volt charge (which I'm pretty sure it did at one point)...

Yeah, maybe while the car is running. What he said before is right. 12.5 is pretty normal.

how long did you charge the battery with your Schumacher? The dry cells like to have a really nice long slow charge after they've been deeply discharged like that. I've used the same style batteries for years and that's been my experience. That battery is basically the same thing that Stinger sells and that's according to them (back when I sold stereo stuff).

Correct sir. I had something that was draining it though, then the cold killed it. :( Got a new one now though. Works great. I fucking hate the cold.

The access light in my hatch was draining it, didn't know it was on. I gave it an 8amp charge for 1 hr 45 mins... I'm pretty damn sure it's junk now. I have a stinger ordered since it's quite a bit cheaper. We'll see how that goes.

Also what I just did. Cost me 20 bucks, and about 2 weeks, got a fresh new battery now. Oh, and some p:JDM swag.
