trying to get the pos to run right

Post by 98ls1ttop »

ok...been working on this for a while now and i cant seem to figure this 96 teg ls out.... car has new plugs,, cap, wires, bug, fuel filter and screen.

the problem is that the car will start and sit and idle very smoothly, but it has absolutely NO power and just acts like its loading up when ur in it.

compression shows 175-180 across

fuel pressure is 38 when not running and 32 when running

has to be a spark issue??

the cam gears are lined up perfect and seems like it idles too good to be out of time. the car was out of time when i igot it but i thought i had it in time. i did it the old fashion way since i have to markings on my harmonic balancer. any help is appreciated!

whats your ignition timing like and , is this a swaped car?

also your cam timing may be off, do the marks line up across the timing belt cover? they are supposed to be horizontal to the motor not ground (motor sits in the car at a angle)

also you might have a vacuum leak also

i just switched the map and tps and it didnt effect the shittyness of it at all, no better, no worse.....

its funny cuz i had the timing off, had both the cams in sync but a tooth off from what it was supposed to be (forward towards front of car) and it ran way better than it does not perfectly in time. it idled good and all, but i fixed the timing and now it just barely runs

not always... i have seen one without the single mark before. be he cand still set piston #1 to tdc and get the correct timing.

my questions are did you remember to jump the jumper when you set the ignition timing and was the engine warm or cold when you did set the ignition timing?

i didnt set it with a light, i set it by tdc on #1 because there are no marks on the pulley....i went over it with a fine tooth comb. i adjusted the timing when the engine was warm. what would i need a jumper for setting it by feel?
