obd1 and below is put on the dyno and is hooked up to the gas anay. to pass emissions.
obd2 and up is hooked up and checked with a scan tool. If the ecu, battery, etc is unplugged the comp loses all of its history and your car will fail. The computer must go through so many key cycles and warm ups to relearn and be able to run at its most efficient state.
