This is the case for non OBDII cars.bildo16;16342 wrote:when we were trained to do emissions testing, we had to use a five gas analyzer, which reads all the gasses coming out of your tailpipe. it gives yo a printout of all your emissions readings, and if it is not within spec, you FAIL! i live in lincoln county(HAHA) so ive never witnessed it, but i think that there is more to it than just reading the ecu. im not sure though, so dont jump all over me.

pass emissions?
huh...anyone ever done this? Also, i went today to get my sister's car done for her (2002 celica), and it failed because i had changed the battery an hour before, and the guy said that i would have to drive it around for a couple of days to let the ecu reset, then bring it back. If that's the case, i wonder if changing out the ecu would result in the same type failure. He said something about if anything was done to the car within a couple of days, it would reject the ecu. If this is true, switching the injectors and ecu out would cause it to fail.rickles8099;16341 wrote:disconnect the chargepiping going to your throttle body, put in stock injectors, and then put in a stock ecu. youll be running n/a on a stock ecu and not hurting the car at all. once you get done with the emmission testing, put the aftermarket injectors and ecu back in and the reconnect the chargepiping. bam.. your back to f/i

was the MIL(check engine light) on?? ive only heard of failures like that due to a check engine light on.DC_T;16344 wrote:huh...anyone ever done this? not at the time, it was on because the battery died (at least thats what we think), so i switch out the battery for her, and it went away. It was not on at the time of the check.

my friend also had this problem w/ his sunfire...he had the ecu replaced the day he went to get emissions done, and they told him he needed to drive it around for a few days and come back. So he did, and it passed.

ive done it, but then again, im obd0. doesnt an obd2 ecu keep a memory of recent ecu codes? i would think that if you swap injectors, ecu, and disconnect the chargepiping, there wouldnt be any recent ecu codes.DC_T;16344 wrote:huh...anyone ever done this? you can always try my suggestion. as long as you have done it within 30 days of the original testing, it doesnt cost you any money. so i would suggest still doing it. you can also let us know the outcome.

yeah, maybe obd2 does keep memory of recent codes, that makes sense. i don't need my emission done till june, but i was just curious. i might try your suggestion though and see what happens. i'll let you guys know. it would definitly beat having to take all that crap off if it does work.rickles8099;16355 wrote:ive done it, but then again, im obd0. doesnt an obd2 ecu keep a memory of recent ecu codes? i would think that if you swap injectors, ecu, and disconnect the chargepiping, there wouldnt be any recent ecu codes.

I get CELs all the time (loose wire connections :\) and I passed...guess it also depends on what the CEL is for.DC_T;16359 wrote:yeah, maybe obd2 does keep memory of recent codes, that makes sense. i don't need my emission done till june, but i was just curious. i might try your suggestion though and see what happens. i'll let you guys know. it would definitly beat having to take all that crap off if it does work.

You have to show receipts that you spent $500 on emissions components and labor for years 1992 and up $250 for below....sucks! I'm just going to register mine to my Uncles house in Washington County! :biggrin:JonDubya;16312 wrote:Swap in stock ecu for the test...they'll just plug it in to the OBDII scanner and if all is well you pass! Additionally you can pay the waiver fee, but I think that it has been jacked way up...like $250-500. I just did this 2days ago, but I'm running a stock ecu anyways.

pass emissions?
i have failed twice this month
but all i did differently this time was drive my car up 170, took 7 to 270 to ladue and then went to test it and dropped my HC from a 1.7xxx to a 1.06xx... so I'm thinking if I can lean it out a touch, and with a nice oil change, I can probably get it through... :dunno:
