In this case he painted it with cheap spray paint and honestly did lower the value of it just by painting it like that. Now I understand why he did it. But the way he went about it was wrong.

The first statement is true. We all for the most part know that we are not going to get the money back we spend on our cars when we sell them. Cars for the most part are not an investment, however I know there is always the exception to the rule and some people are able to turn a profit when selling. We buy and mod them to what we want them to be, just like he did and except the fact we are not going to get all that money back.

He went cheap, so it make sense. This way he only looses 20-30 bucks instead of 1000+ for a legit paint job.

The car most likly has a little rust and other issues. I honestly dont feel IMO that a paint job of this sort on a car that old will decrease the value, because almost anyone that is going to buy it from him in the future is either just looking for a car to get from "A" to "B" and dont care how it looks, or is going to mod it themselves and in that case either bought it for the color or am going to paint it anyway.

Yes, it will decrease the value. Maybe not to dumb ricers. But to the average person looking for an 'A to B' car, it does. I'm sure if my CRX was flat black'd with some rattle cars, Phate would have never paid my asking price, which was more then KBB value at the time.

My CRX also had rust and other issues, but still looked nice after a good cleaning that I'm sure cost me less time and money then he spent on spray paint.

If we planned on getting our money back selling a car that we built, none of us would be here. That doesn't mean you shouldn't put the time, effort, and money into doing things right. On top of the fact that rattle canning that car just made it that much more difficult to prep for a legit paint job.

/rant...
no but unlike said known members WE used better paint DID not DO flat black and started with cars whose paint was in WAY worse shape and condition .. PLUS our cars really were not as uncommon as a what appeared to be clean crx.

examples:
eg-claytons is satin black and sprayed with a gun, mine was olive green and done right
ek-josh's was multiple colors but all better paint
240-once again mine was satin and done right .. shit i just rerattle canned it and i looks TONS better then when it was black.
CRX-my original crx was wrecked when purchased and i used satin

examples:
satin black

battleship gray

so what a person does what he wants with the own car .. they should atleast do it right (or as close as you can get lol)

However Phate is a Honda enthusiast who cars. Someone that is just looking for a cheap car to get them around town is most likly not going to care. Maybe this is just my thinking though.

Yes it does make it a bit harder but not that much. So now you have to sand it instead of just scuffing it. Take a DA to it and call it good if you want to go back to a legit paint job.

Appeared to be clean is the key here. I dont know for sure but there are things that you may not see in the pics like small amounts of rust, scratches in the clear coat/paint that could not be buffed out, small dents etc...

Also maybe this is the closest he can get to doing it right.

I believe he said he likes it and thats all that matters IMO and does not warrent flamming.

Exactly. A cheap car. No one in their right mind would pay near what KBB value is for a car in that condition. So he did decrease the value of the car. That's all I'm trying to say.

Of course that's all that matters. But if you can't handle other's opinions when you post pictures of your car on a public web forum, don't post pictures of your car. Simple.

Pretty sure you guys scared the guy off.

Rob I totally agree w/ you about the feedback when posting pictures, and decent paint job on a car ruined. There are nicer ways to express opinions though.
This is seriously one of the most hostile boards I'm on, and the rides are also some of the most ghetto. I have yet to figure out why 1/2 the people on this board are like this.
Finds it funny you (all) check my profile multiple times a day. Get a life.

Ahem... in my opinion I hate hate hate generic red cars, now I also do agree with the satin suggestion but I'm stoked he's happy, dood all my friends thought I was retarded when I couldn't afford to make the hatch run or even know if it was going to at all, but I still did stuff to it, I t could have been a complete waste of time but I genuinely enjoyed it and I think a lot of people forget about that factor. And I would have painted it too even if the paint was perfect, can't stand red.

Jus sayin:pals:

Seriously WTF guys. There are constructive comments and there is some of the shit that was posted in here. As other members have said it's getting a little out of hand on this site. Do I need to back into nazi mod mode to clean this shit up?
