Potential "new" car. 1965 Lincoln, barn find.

Post by RyanA »

Well, went to look at a Lincoln yesterday. The wife and I had talked about getting one to do a little bit to. At first, I was going to flat black the car but the more I look at it, the more I like the original burgundy. Once you clean it off, it's just a flat looking color. I'd leave it EXACTLY the way it ends up after a good cleaning, no wax. The body is VERY straight and I don't think there was a single door ding down the side of the car. Some small rust spots on the bumpers and a little rust on the trunk drain rails. Honestly, pretty good body overall. Interior needs cleaned badly and the front seat could use a cover or recovering. Carpet may clean up OK but it's dusty from sitting.

Anyway, here's the good stuff: I checked all the fluids and they were all clean and full. After sitting since 1990 or so (inspection sticker is punched 1989). The guy had some 2 stroke gas for his 4 wheeler sitting there so I put it in a glass bottle and poured a bit in the carb. I figured the oil would be a good thing to coat the cylinders since the car had not started for a good while. The engine started IMMEDIATELY and ran perfectly smooth. No lifter noise or anything. Exhaust needs replaced. Power windows kind of work when they want so the electrical will need to be gone through.

Brakes I was told the rear right was stuck but he had recently put on new wheel cylinders on the back. The front brakes interested me because they are factory 4 piston calipers on large discs.

Well, here are some pics of the car with a whole lot of dust on it. Like I said, the body is VERY straight and it even comes with all the hubcaps. Sorry, no full on side pics or anything as it's on a side bay on a barn. There is almost no room to move around the car...

I guess I forgot to mention it's a 4 door with suicide back doors. The back seat bottom was pulled out because the guy was afraid that moisture would accumulate while it was sitting. He pulled it out and sat it sideways to keep the floor dry. Dust and dirt everywhere and a very worn driver seat bottom:

LOL. In the works. I have to measure my damn car trailer. I am not sure that it will be wide enough or long enough to get the car on. Car is pretty much mine as soon as we work out the details. It belongs to a friend of mine.

If anyone sees more of these, I'm looking for multiple cars. I want to put one together for someone so I could use an extra. He sold his a few years ago and I'm sure he'd crap if he came home one day to see one sitting in his driveway. His was a '62 convertible but I'm sure he'd be happy with any 62-67...
