well last week I was at O'Reilly's waiting for their runner to get back with a part that I ordered and I decided to buy some paint so I could shave and spray one of my spare valvecovers. After a week of getting screwed by the weather, I finally got an opportunities to prime it (1200* engine primer) and spray it (Krylon Hammr paint), it took me a little bit to get used to the paint, and if I had some more practice, I think I could get the texturing down pretty well but I am happy with it. I've let it dry and setup since Friday and I just put it on after work today.

60 grit + elbow grease + a little "mouse" electric sander for some of the grunt work... by far not the easy way, but I like doing things with hand tools I feel like I have more control that way.

actually not too long, I started stripping the valvecover at like 5:30 after work on tuesday (2 coats of paint, and a coat of powdercoat) and after it got dark I brought it into the basement for the shaving. I just sat in the basement and went at it off and on until like 12 (I was on the phone half of the time too). It would have gone faster if I had more of the right sand paper here, but I only had one sheet of 60grit for the sander, so i ended up doing more by hand than with the sander. all and all it took less time than the last one I did (that I traded to TMarsh)

its just a straight silver. It has a "hand hammered" look to it, so its sort of like a glossy wrinkle paint. Like I said, if I had more practice, I could punch up the texturing, but I didn't really figure out how I needed to do it until I was a few coats into it so it is more gloss than it would have been otherwise. its actually a lot brighter than the color of the car too, it gives a good contrast.
