So, I'm gonna start this by saying this: I'm not bashing anyone, I'm just asking a question in an attempt to learn some reasons behind why people do certain things they do.

Ok, here is my question(s):

1) Why do you mod your Honda? (I get modding the S2k and an NSK, just not the Civic, Teg, Prelude, etc.)

2) Don't the loud exhausts annoy you? I ask because there are very few that I've heard that don't sound like crap (to me anyway) and I can't help but think that they annoy the drivers over time as well.

Again, not trying to start anything, just looking for some insight here

After building a few Hondas like the ways you mentioned, I'm getting in the same boat as you.

But i guess you can also think of it the way of... Don't the loud exhaust on a V8 annoy you at times well? I love the sound of a nice V8 with headers and aftermarket exhaust, but i can also see how some days you would get sick of it as well.

But I also understand modding a small displacement Honda and still not getting much power out of it and it still being powered at the Wrong Wheel Drive. but sometimes it's fun to watch an underdog car beat whomever.

There are Pros and Cons for any car, but some people modify Hondas since they are inexpensive and have a large variety of after market parts so anyone make their own special car.

I loved the fart cans and such, and then getting in the Acura with the stock exhaust, it's nice to cruise down the highway and not here anything getting loud behind me.

just a few of my points.
I'm still a neighborhood ASSHOLE!

1. because it got good gas mileage, then over time i wanted to make it quicker and shut some people up who swear their mostly stock "muscle car" will never lose to a honda
2. my old exhaust did. it was way too loud, the new one will be quite a bit quieter. there are some exhausts that sound good on hondas but alot of them sound like shit

just a side point, i love cars in general, and like josh said, all cars have exhaust that sound good and other that sound like shit. i personally am not a fan of the way the newer lsx engines sound. for drag sure a civic/teg isnt set up the greatest but i still like being underestimated and people just assuming that its some other stock civic with an exhaust and some shiny thing behind the front bumper
i may not be "logical" but at least i can change my oil...

1) I like the look of most of the older hondas, parts are cheap and widely available, and the cars are super easy to work on.

2) I had one car that the exhaust was LOUD, but it was also a high compression, fun car build. My other cars have had subtle exhaust notes.

To put it bluntly, I mod my Civic because it's easy. They're very simple cars.

What it really comes down to is I enjoy modding it. You can ask anyone why they modify their car. No matter what they drive, you'll almost always get that answer.

Loud exhausts annoy me as well. I've had a stock exhaust on nearly every car I've ever owned.

1) its almost like an art to mod a car and honda has so many options to be as creative as you want or as your pockets extend.

2) i dont like a loud exhaust.. its useless to me

1) cause I'm awesome? I love it when someone with a vette or cobra runs their mouth then I lay waste to them. The car was cheap and I like the shape and weight of it. There is just something about it being small and the fact it's not supposed to be fast that makes it fun.

2) I dont drive the car that often and I kinda like how deep the sound is my car idles like a v8 but has a redline of 9k. Yeah it's loud but that's cause race car

It is different and outside of the norm. of what I had known. I have had fox bodies and experience with other platforms but modding a Honda was a challenge, newer ground yet to be covered so to say comparatively to per say traditional mustangs, good mix of technology involved, etc... no less I picked an 4dr accord to even step outside of even the box for hondas.

Still have an appreciation for other cars just happens to be what I enjoy now is this.

I have a huge distaste for shitty loud raspy small displacement car exhaust as well. With my 3" and muffler combination I would say my car is very mild and definately not in that catagory.

I will admit there is no doubt a healthy v8 or whatnot is very appealing to me as far as sound, among other things.

I could see myself owning another v8 car if I have the additional budget for it, but there is plenty of time for that... and I probably more than likely will still have a mod'd honda or 2 to keep it company.

Interesting responses so far, which is a good thing actually. Again, I'm not trying to attack anyone here, just looking for some insight.

And to answer a question directed at me: Yes, there are some exhausts for V8s that make me want to pull my hair out cause they sound so bad.

1) It was what I had to work with, and I've grown to love it.

As twkd said, having a 4 dr Accord is kind of different in the Honda game (and much more useful) and I really like having it. Super reliable and I can go almost anywhere with it.

I don't have much done to it (suspension work, minor appearance mods) but I've certainly learned a lot tinkering with it.

2) I think I tend to think like the OP. I very rarely hear 4 banger exhausts I like.

The only loud 4 banger exhaust I've liked (that I've heard personally) was on SleeperSOHC37's turbo Civic. It was VERY loud; straight through 3 inch with a Tanabe can muffler. It had a fairly aggressive cam, so it was nice and deep.

It's only problem was... well, how loud it was. Not that he had problems with the law, but more the douche factories that would see/hear it and just HAVE to try and race him. It was amusing for a while, but it just got old. The drone was also pretty awful.
