Working on you car BLOOPERS

This thread is to post your dumb mistakes while working on your car :) ENJOY!

When doing a swap in a honda I was under the car trying to get the bitch pin out, Stolle decided it would be a good time to pull the intake manifold without draining coolant. I got a nice coolant shower and a very wet work area for the rest of the day.

Working on my 87 Camry on the side of the road(turned out to be the alternator) a gust of wind lifted the hood then slammed it on my head knocking me out. Woke up to a cop asking me if i was alright.

Recently, I did oil.... forgot to put cap back on and drove to work. :( Messy and Smokey.

Had a blow out in my continental, wouldn't start afterwards. I messed with it for like an hour before I called a tow truck (I was on Vacation) He towed me to a shop where they looked at it real quick to see what was going on. The blow out tripped the fuel shut-off. 250 bucks for a seanic cruise on I-40

Stripped a strut tower bolt because I thought I was loosening it when I was actually tightening it.

Latest blooper was doing an oil change at work on my Protege. Never had used the oil gun before. I pulled and held the trigger and watched the needle spin around, counting off the quarts...got past 3 so I let up but the trigger locked on. I paniced and pulled the gun out, thinking that I could avoid over-filling. Oil in my engine bay, front of the car, a mechanic's tool box and work bench, some parts on the floor, the floor, and the trash can that was the gun's destination where I figured out how to turn the damn thing off.

So I check the car and definitely overfilled. I had to put the car up on the lift 3 times to drain and get the level right. Took way too long and I felt like a retard. That's what I get for trying to use free-to-me oil. lol

You're a true VDub enthusiast! Yes, VWs are solid in terms of body & drivetrain, but a true VDub enthusiast embraces all the little things that go wrong as a means to become intimate with the car!
