Shaking really really bad

Post by B16aRS »

Ok guys my car is shaking and at first my teacher told me axles but now hes almost positive thats not it. Were gonna put it on the dyno at the end of next week but i cant wait that long.

When i accelerate my car shakes. Its not a vibration but a shake, like door panels sometimes pop off, dash shakes crazy bad, windows rattle, steering wheel shakes left to right, i can feel it in my seats, pedals, and floor. It is extremely bad and i cant deal with it any longer.

When i shift gears i hear a clunk sometimes but only when i shift. Not while letting the clutch out or anything. Right when i put it in gear.

At school we put it on the lift and checked tie rod ends and wheel bearings.

Tires are all balanced and have recently been checked.

Engine mounts and TQ mounts are good and torn ones replaced.

This all started around the time when i swapped my transmission, clutch, resurfaced flywheel, suspension, and rear LCA's.

Went from a LS tranny to a 00 Civic SI trannny.

Please help me

AH gotcha. Yeah i did bolt the input shaft to the block. When TQing it down 2 of them stripped out. I helicoiled it and TQed them down to spec. Could it be because i had to helicoil them?

One thing i was a little curious about was the engine stiffeners, the LS has one but the GSR has 2. I have a B16a and a B16 tranny. Do i need two now?
Here is a pic of the stiffener i was talking about :Image

Ok looked at the intermediate shaft and she is tight. When it gets a little darker ill check the plug wires.

I thought you said the problem was fixed a while back when you replaced bent wheels? This was months ago. There is NO WAY you have been driving your car "with the door panels sometimes falling off" for months. When did THIS (the current) problem really start?

Honest information can help troubleshoot the problem. Are your wheels bent AGAIN????

Also, I don't see any reason to check spark plug wires. I have never seen a stock Honda/Acura that shook so massively due to misfire that it made door panels fall off.

Here is what I would do: Put front of car on jack stands. Start car and put in 1st gear. Let out on clutch then just let car idle. See if the wheels and tires are running straight and true. Watch for any movement. If your car is shaking as violently as you say, you will see the problem.

What ryan said, and make sure your lug nuts and axle nuts are torqued all the way down too.

I thought the problem was fixed but it wasnt. Its really really weird. The panels dont actually fall off. They just come unclipped at the bottom. It seems to have gotten a bit worst.

We checked the plug wires tonight and they were arching and stuff. I might get new wires tomorrow.

Ryan the rim is bent still but the car shakes with that rim on or off the car.
I have also been dealing with it this long. Just trying to figure the problem out myself instead of posting. You can ask getteg, i have been complaining to him for a long ass time. haha

Thanks for the help. I am so lost and RyanA i know u know ur stuff. I will put the car on jack stands tomorrow when i get off of school tomorrow.

PS: ryana if u r on stlhondas still i will be in the shoutbox for a bit if u have any questions or ideas.

Like I said, just put it in 1st gear and let it idle. Make sure the car is on jackstands (or, preferably, a lift) and check everything out. Sounds like a bent axle (not sure how that would happen though), bent wheel or hub, hub pressed into bearing sideways (also hard to do but not impossible), or ???

What year was your car? If it's 96-up, do you still have the OBD2 ECU? If so, that would help you troubleshoot any sort of engine issue the car has.

Wish I was closer, I'd go for a drive in the car and see what I could figure out.

A few questions:

1. When you experience the vibration, does the steering wheel wobble?
2. Does the wobble only occur on the shift or is it any time you are accelerating/decelerating?
3. Does the wobble get worse with vehicle speed or engine speed?
4. Can you push the clutch in and have the wobble go away for the mostpart?
5. Does it get worse when you turn left or right?
6. When you installed the trans, did you put in a different flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, or axles?

Let me know and I'll try to help you get it troubleshot.
