Personal Opinion, I would never go with a plasma. They get screen burn in very easily and the brightness of them fades over a few years.
I have a sharp Aquos 46" LCD and I am extremely pleased with it. I had a 50" DLP projection and I liked it except for the screen, It looked like it was snowy all the time - thats just the way the screens are though.
Plasma's may be a bit cheaper but you would be much happier in the long run to get either an LCD or DLP

I am trying to stick with HITACHI because I am buying through employee sales. the above TV I get for $1088 with 13 weeks same as cash. I would be interested in other HITACHI products but really don't want to stray from that brand.g3integragsr;85948 wrote:where are you looking at it and whats the price and price range?
I picked mine up for $1,500
EDIT: Due to space limitations I really dont need better than 42"

my mom has had one for about 2 years. personally i dont think it is worth it getting a expensive tv, but i am very cheap. my mom seems to like it i think its too big and too complicated. she also has a lcd tv for a while now and i like it more they both take a long time to warm up which is a drag. i would go with lcd but it sounds like the one you found is a great deal.
so far behind im ahead of the pack.

If you need to get Hitachi, can't you just get one of their LCDs or a projection TV?

well since i have this tv... it works fine for the price i got it for but if i had more money id buy a better tv. the tv is a huge upgrade from what i had so it was a good buy. HD channels look amazing and so does xbox in HD. movies look great but u need to get a system for better sound.
all in all i am content with my purchase.
