Safe, yes. But unless you tune for it, your car will not run very well.

Yes, cheaper but you'll use about 30% more. Stoich for gasoline is 14.7 but E85 stoich is about 9.7 A/F. So you need more fuel to get the same power. The real advantage would come from increase compression ratio so you could take advantage of E85's 105 octane rating.

So is 11.6:1 high compression to you? Thats what im shooting for in my ls vtec build. Im also shooting on having you guys tune it.. lol. Stoich is my favorite word btw. Also, when you tune for it, does it still consume more?

11.6 is on the high side of what you could ran on pump but well suited for E85.
Yes it would still consume more. Without changes to the ECM program it would calculate pulse width based on a 14.7 stoich, so it would be running very lean.
If building this for high horsepower, don't forget the fuel pump and injectors would also have to be sized accordingly.

Not really high horsepower, probably like 200whp.

E85 Gasoline

john covered it mostly already.

as I stated in the post with the new all motor guy here... ethanol is not nearly as corrosive as people try to say or think it is (although it definatley is considered corrosive). most either confuse or associate it with methanol, which is much more corrosive than ethanol. ethanol is a grain (corn currently) based alcohol though and the methanol is a wood based alcohol... 2 different type of alcohol, although both yes an alcohol.

some other food for thought, your standard pump gasoline already has 10% (technically called e10, the standard % these days) or some a little more ethanol (next time your at the pump, you will notice there is a sticker on it stating the ethanol content). automotive manufacturers have been required to use ethanol compliant fuel components for some time for this reason.

also note that e85 is the summer blend, 85% ethanol content... winter blends also exsist for colder climate areas and winter months... deemed e70 (although in some areas its still called e85 but they state it is a winter blend), in which the ethanol content obviously drops to 70% to aid in cold starting. some places will not change blends though and it always good to ask the station manager if they will to be sure.

as said above you wil require to tune your car accordingly, you cannot just pump in e85 on a non flex fuel vehicle without some compensation. you will run very lean.
