HPDE track day

Post by granturismonut »

Well I registered for a HPDE track day at Gingerman Raceway. I was just wondering if anyone here has done any track days and any advice they had for such an event. I've done drag racing and auto-x, but this is something new. Thanks in advance.

I was going put this in the Strip/Track forum but it seemed a little biased to drag racing.

I will also be doing my first HPDE in 08 at the ITR Expo 8 at VIR in Vrginia in June, it is an open event for all cars if anyone wants to go, there is a caravan of R's from NE,IA,KS,MO,IL that go through TN and pick up more R's onto our destination. You can check out the info on Honda Tech here:

Let me know if any of you end up going or are interested, I will be paying this week and I will be camping, if you pay (driver only) by the 15th of december you will be entered in a raffle to get your money back. FYI It is $40 to attend and not drive, Honda Tuning will be there taking pics, you can camp or get a hotel, it's pretty much driving and bullshitting during the day and getting shitfaced at night

I've never done one either but as far as advice goes, I would make sure to check over the car really good, check oil, brakes, brake fluid, tires, get a helmet that is approved by the event (if you don't already have one), you'll have an instructor with you in your car the whole time and he will help you and show you the lines if need be. What kind of car are you going with? There are some HPDE's here at Gateway about 4 times a year I believe which I will try to attend next year also, I have a link at home for a website (I'm at work) that lists all the HPDE events in the US that I will post up later.

Neat to see the interest in these ... they are great fun and the best "mod" you can make to your car

Gingerman and VIR are highly regarded tracks ... I've not been there b4, but I knock down about 1 new track a year, and have done Gateway a bunch

FYI, there are 10-12 DE type events at Gateway .. they are open to all makes of cars

Here's a BMW Club club doc that will walk through what to expect and what'll they'll be teaching you http://stlbmwcca.org/layout_images/dsworkbook.pdf

After that, go here http://www.trackpedia.com/wiki/Main_Page and find an in-car video of the track you'll be on ... any advance feel you can get for the lines through the turns will add to your enjoyment!

ya, I'm glad to see others in the area attend these as well. The ITR Expo is open to any make of cars, last year for example there was an Ariel Atom there and people were going for ride alongs, so it should be a blast.

It is open to whatever you bring (within reason) check the event website and check the listing of registered vehicles, mostly Hondas but a handful of other cars STI's EVO's 240's, ect ect.
