I ususally try a Phillips head bit on a 3/8" ratchet first. I tap the bit into the head of the screw a few times with a hammer to break free some corrosion and to get a good bite on the screw. If that doesn't work, I usually just drill them out and replace them.

yup or if they are too stripped then a good drill bit with some water to cool the bit will drill the heads off them in almost the same time it takes to get them out with the hand impact. you dont need them anyways so no big deal if they get screwed up.

what i did is take a screwdriver that has a hole in the back of the handle and put another long screw driver through it so you have extra leverage and can keep it centered good and make sure you are pushing in while you twist.

Yep, impact driver FTW. If it's super PITA, take a torch and heat it up a little first. Then, get the correct sized bit, put it in the impact driver. Push down a little and smack it with the hammer. A couple blows is usually all it takes. Buy the one that has lifetime warranty on the tips as I have broken 3 of them in the last 6 months.
