this isn't exactly much of a mod question. i was into modding like 3 years ago, and then i grew up and realized if i wanted a fast car i wouldn't dump a ton of it into a honda, i'd just buy something fast.
(tl;dr at bottom)
i've got a 94 dx that i swapped with a cx motor. the dx is a d15b7 motor (16 valve 1.5) and the cx is a d15b8 (8 valve 1.5). i did this because my b7 blew up and had almost 200k on it, the b8 had low miles. the guy that sold me the b8 didn't have the ECU. when i installed it i noticed the coolant flow in the b8 intake manifold was reversed, and i ended up having to plug off an extra coolant tube. the motor runs fine and has for the past 2+ years, except it has a strange over-rev problem. when the engine is cold, it will rev up to 1500 and back down to 800, repeat. it gets better when the engine is warm (900-1100, slowly, not very noticeable). i figured this was from the intake manifold.
i ignored the problem until i fixed my exhaust with my buddy. he mentioned that my exhaust smelled like fuel. this got me thinking that the motor is probably running rich because the ECU thinks it still has 16 valves. now. do i hunt down a CX ECU, or just reprogram it? i'm sure a USB-OBDII isn't very expensive and i can probably find software somewhere. i've flashed, flexed, and reprogrammed motorola phones so i'm mildly familiar with the technique.
tl;dr: swapped a 16 valve motor to a 8 valve motor, didn't replace the ECU, suspect motor is running rich from an over-rev idling issue. reprogram ECU or hunt down the ECU i need? ECU reprogramming shouldn't be THAT hard, should it?
also: anyone know where i can find a 92-95 civic CX ECU?
