I'm planning to do a D16a6/Si tranny swap in my Civic STD sometime this year. I also plan to do a turbo setup on the a6 at the same time and was wondering if anybody around here can tune OBD-0 with Turbo Edit? Street tune would be fine with me since it's just gonna be a fun daily driver.
Second question. I'm probably going to do a T3 AR42 from a Saab 900 w/ HF mani + adapater, etc... If I get tuned on that setup and later decide to upgrade to a "real" manifold, would I need a re-tune since the flow and spool times would obviously change? If so, I'll probably just save and do it "right" the first time with a true turbo mani.

You wouldn't have to change your tune with a manifold swap. The compressor side is still going to flow the same amount of air as it did before your boost is just going to come on sooner.

If you are worried about doing it right the first time, go OBD1. Lowe Performance does good tuning work. Depending on your power goals (I'm guessing you're shooting for sub-200whp), the HF manifold will do just fine.

I was actually shooting for around the 200whp mark. I've seen stock D16a6's in the 220whp range so figured that 200whp would be a reasonable goal. Truth be told, 180whp range would still be okay as I've seen those numbers hit low 13's in the ED chassis. Of course I'd love to be able to dip into the 12's which I've seen with the 220-230whp range in an ED hatch.JustRob;167574 wrote:If you are worried about doing it right the first time, go OBD1. Oh, and what is the argument for going OBD-1 over OBD-O w/ turbo edit? Turbo Edit allows for both Fuel and Timing adjustments which are the two biggies. What would OBD-1 gain me?

more tuning options , crome being the biggest one in my eyes .. plus thats what jon at lowe performance is most familiar with.
also i am currently using a hf manifold with a bmc adapter to run a 14b and my car made 250 to the wheels on the stock bottom end (well not for long lol) but you will be fine for 200-220 on the hf manifold.
(my bottom end was a little to weak for the aggressive tune 250hp/230tq, but my next one wont be and i am going for 350hp+ this time)

Good to know about the HF mani. That still doesn't answer my question about the OBD-1. Why is tuning with Crome better than Turbo Edit? What does Crome have that TE doesn't (that would be crucial to a good tune)?N2HIFI;167621 wrote:more tuning options , crome being the biggest one in my eyes .. plus thats what jon at lowe performance is most familiar with.

I haven't decided on a tuner yet and if I'm going to be forced to spend the money to convert to OBD-1 because of the tuner's needs then I'd rather spend that money to stay OBD-0 and drive to Nashville to have adseguy (don't know if anybody on here knew him when he was in MO) tune my car.....assuming he still tunes hondas that is.

How much boost do you think it would take to hit 200whp on a 14b w/ HF mani on a D16a6? Think my estimate of 9-10psi is pretty accurate for a 200whp goal?N2HIFI;167621 wrote:more tuning options , crome being the biggest one in my eyes .. plus thats what jon at lowe performance is most familiar with.

i was at 10 psi with that tune.CleanGSR;167624 wrote:How much boost do you think it would take to hit 200whp on a 14b w/ HF mani on a D16a6? Think my estimate of 9-10psi is pretty accurate for a 200whp goal?

i had a cpl parts which made my car make the numbers that you may or not be running
-zex 105300 cam
-LS TB and ported y8 manifold
-3" exhaust
-ported head
but i would assume that those parts would be worth about 40hp because people with greddy kits on y8's do 200 consistently and thats a smaller turbo then my 14b

You have a lot more features and the tunability is easier. The choices for EMS are far greater as well. Honestly, I didn't know people still tuned on TurboEdit. Converting to OBD1 is not a whole lot of money. The cost of taking a trip to Nashville to tune would probably cost more. I'm pretty sure Nerrej converted his car for about $150. Plus, if you ever need a retune, that's another out of state trip. Just hop on Crome's website and check it out.CleanGSR;167623 wrote:Good to know about the HF mani. As far as power output, I wouldn't push a stock block D past 190whp if it's a DD. Ringlands start to crack and rods start to bend at 200whp. 8-10psi should easily allow you to meet your goal. I can't remember what the 14b is gated at though. Somewhere around or above 10psi. You might be able to washer out the gate to run less boost, but I'd be careful about that.
