New crx problems

Post by aGUNS »

I just bought a new crx and im having a couple of problems.
First are the tail lights. When I press the brakes they do not light up, but when the head lights are turned on they light up. Ive changed the brake switch and still no luck. Fuses and bulbs sre good. Any ideas?
Also, in order to pass inspection I need to replace the entire exhaust system, does anyone know where they will pass inspection with out a cat? Or Does anyone know where I can get exhaust work done dirt cheap?
And lastly, the horn doesn't work and I have no clue how to fix that

Double check your underhood fuses, the brake lights and horn use the same fuse. If it is good then you probably have a connection demon somewhere, are there any modifications to the electrical system that you are aware of?

your best bet is to see if you can get wiring diagrams for your car.

I'll bet you that one of your horns is fried and it's causing the fuse to burn out... you say the fuses are good, but like budget_crx said, double check the one in the pass fender fuse box that is for the brake lights and horn. I think it's a 20 amp.

I just looked and you guys were right, the fuse under the hood was burnt out. As soon as I put a new one it it burned out again.

Also, I'm not sure if this means anything but when I bought the car the born didn't work....but the brake lights did. They worked find then they stopped working the next day.
Also, my seatbelt light always flashes and my door open light is always on. But the buzzer for the seatbelt doesn't work either.

remove front bumper to gain access to the horns. disconnect and test them by running wires from the battery. I'll bet that one (or both) of them won't sound. replace the bad horn (or be ghetto and just leave it disconnected). that *should* fix your problem, as it is somewhat common for the horns to fry out and cause the fuse to blow. I've seen this situation on two different EF's, but you should also check the wires for frayed sections or heavily corroded connectors because I also had to replace wiring on one project car also.

So what the problem of this was....
is that who ever the previous owner was did a hack job and cut the wires that loop inside the drivers door. and left the horns disconnected. I have no idea why. Whoever owned this car before me was dumb....I know they messed with wires they shouldnt have. By this I mean:
The seat belt light is always flashing (wires that go into the door)
The dash light do not dim or get brighter
The annoying buzzer when the door is open doesnt work
The door open light is always on even though it really isnt open, and there are no problems with the door latch or anything.

Its just little things like that.

well i am happy you got a crx BUT... these are things to look at before you pull the trigger on buying it... that being said, its really to late to rectify that so, the question you had about the exhaust, cars that old no longer need to pass emissions (95 and older), so if you have an exhaust that is not rusted out there really shouldnt be any reason they shouldnt pass it, as for the wiring issues.... it sounds like there is a big short somewhere

The only problem it had when I bought it was the horn...the brake lights did work. they worked until two days later. So when I bought it at first, i just thought the horn was out, but it turned into a bigger problem.
And as for the exhaust, I found a shop that fixed it for $150, and now it passed inspection.

I bought the crx for a good price and the money to put into fixing it so far hasnt been bad.
