A tune would be a complete waste and youd probaly gain nothing noticable considering how close to stock you are. Maybe some more supporting mods ( cam, springs, intake manifold/tb) would be more advisable and be worth spending money on a tune. BTW Lowe performance, ( one of our sites sponsor's) does a really good job and reasonable on tuning options, when the time does arise.

I know a kid in cali that got his car tuned on a dyno for 150 bucks and it took about 45 mins. I'm pretty sure he gained about 10-11whp on his d16y8 motor.andyjt;109542 wrote:A tune would be a complete waste and youd probaly gain nothing noticable considering how close to stock you are. on a y8 in a obd2 car this is more possible then a obd1 car.LoweredTealEG;145107 wrote:I know a kid in cali that got his car tuned on a dyno for 150 bucks and it took about 45 mins. I'm pretty sure he gained about 10-11whp on his d16y8 motor.
meaning in a obd1 car ou will get the noticable increase in power without a tune because a obd1 computer allowes for changes from the base line within a certian % ( ie .. you will get the same gains without a tune as you would with a tune)
where the obd2 cars tollerances are ALOT tighter and do not allow for the same gains as you would get in a obd1 car thus why a tune would give a more noticable difference.
example
z6 car with said bolt ons with stock ecu and no tune would probley see a 10-15 hp gain on the dyno
BUT
y8 car with said bolt ons with a stock ecu would only see about a 5 hp gain on a dyno due to the tighter regulations of obd2

you don't need a tune for the mods listed by the OP. the MOST you MIGHT want to do is bump the fuel pressure a few psi. If you were to chip a computer in that car all you will be able to do is tweak the timing and (maybe) compensate fuel for the slight increase in airflow. IMO the stock map has enough 'headroom' in the program to handle those minimal mods.
save your money for now, and if you get a cam/turbo/supercharger/headwork whatever...then get it tuned.
