trans rattles..

Post by zacs2k »

well ive been puting up with my transmisision rattles, whistles, and shifter looseness, wobbley sloppy feel and im tired of it.

i think the whistle part of the problem is my clutch, i think it might be going out. but i get a 2000-3500 rpm rattle and it sounds like the exhaust, but i can feel it in the shifter so i dont know what it is. also when ever i enter any gear it makes a rattle. then when im in gear, the shifter is hella loose and wobley. i replaced the bushings with passwordjdm ones but it didn't seem to do anything.

everything about the shifting pisses me off(it might be because the 05 mustang gt and 04 mini copp S i have driven in the past few days, they both shifted so smooth, and were so solid it felt like and automatic) i just want a solid smooth quiet shift.

help on fixing all this is appreciated

first look here for the loose shifter.

what does the rattle sound like? like a tin can rattle? maybe exhaust heat shield? check those for tightness or do what i do and rip them out.

does the whistling noise go away when you pushing the clutch in? could be your throwout bearing.

what kind of transmission fluid are you using and when was it last changed?

if you want a nice crisp, smooth shift then i highly suggest some very stiff motor mounts. possibly even sopme cheap engine mount inserts will help it some if you dont have the money.

its a tin can rattle, i tightened the heat shields, but found this as a reasoning maybe.....

"Ok.
Finally fixed my exhaust rattle at 3000RPM.Wasn't Cat converter, Wasn't heat shielts, nothing like that. It is actually A-pipe.
A-pipe has extra inner pipe inside and that's where is the problem. End of the A-pipe( piece going into the Cat) get's loose at the end. I weld inner pipe to the outer, that way it would not move and that is it my friends.
Simple as that."

it only wines when i push in the clutch when im driving

im using honda genuine trans fluid. just changed it a couple months ago

ill look into the mounts thanks

more than likely your throwout bearing is bad.

i do not like honda mtf in our old trannies. (the green label honda mtf)
my opinion is too drain that shit out. too many bad experiences with that crap. i use pennzoil syncromesh in all my trannies with great success.
