quick trany question, snap ring..?

Post by 4Door »

when you put all the guts from a s80 into a ys1, do i need to install the snap ring..? I'm referring to the snap ring the you have to take off before you can split the case and then try to get it back on when you put them back together... the s80 did not seem to have one, or at least, it wasn't in the bucket when i received it...

right now, i have everything buttoned up, i cant get the bearing to move up so the snap ring will into place... it is however around the bearing, just not down enough to snap into place...

so
will the gear assembly move by itself enough to get the snap ring on..? in other words, do i just bolt the trans back up to the motor and go for a drive..?

I'msure i sound dumb built this is the first time i have ever got inside a trans...

I usually have to turn the tranny around and give it a slight "drop" onto an old floor mat or something like that. Worked every time to get the snap ring in the groove.
