Prelude Tranny

Post by Its Pat! »

i have a 1986 prelude si with the 2.0. i broke an axle on the inside and as the wheel was spinning the axle was spinning too and smashed a hole in my tranny. being that the car was a piece of shit, i just drove it that way for about 7 months. then as i was driving on the highway, 5th gear exploded as well as reverse. being that the car was a piece of shit, i just drove it THAT way for another 3 months. now the car has been sitting since my freshman year down at semo and if i can find a cheap tranny, ill just replace it because the motor only has 60k on it. i need to know what transmissions will bolt up to that motor. or if anyone with a transmission wants the car let me know, 100$.

if it's a single cam motor (I dont remember off the top of my head) you are looking for any 'a-series' transmission... this means any prelude like yours, or any 86-89 accord. the difference will be that the accord gears are longer than the prelude gears, but for a beater/daily driver, the accord gears will do just fine.

the accord trannies only work on the single cam motors... easiest way to identify the single cams (a-series) from the dual cam (the bastard b20a) is to look at the motor. If the spark plugs are on top and in the middle of the valve cover, its a b20. if the wires run to the front of the head and not the valve cover, its an a-series. Accord trannies only work on the a-series.
