replacing sychros...

Post by Spork »

alright, if I keep my car around (which could happen) I am pulling the motor/tranny and putting in a clutch/flywheel and I figure I'd replace the synchros while it's all off the car... So, who has experience with this? what level of difficulty are we talking about with this? I've never ventured as far as opening a transmission up, so I don't really know what to expect, and all of the write ups I read are from people who do it regularly and act like its nothing.... and would any of you want to help a brotha out?

not that hard. just need new syncros, snap ring pliers, extension, a 10mm socket, 12mm socket, and a larger size socket that i dont remember the size, (youll need a 14mm socket if you want to change your final drive), silicone, about 1 - 2 hours, and pacients (misspell i know). and remember how you take the imput shaft and counter shafts apart, they go together only one way.

IF you keep the car, when do you plan on doing this?

it will be this winter at some point. probably over my month I'm off between semesters... so like end of december early january time frame
the car may still be for sale at that point, but I'll probably do the work on anyway. Plus, I might like the car enough after that to keep it for a while.

I got a quote on the synchros from gearspeed, and they aren't too bad, thats why I figured I'd do it.

but you wanna help?

well, I'll keep this thread updated with if/when I am doing it, and just lmk if you have the time to lend a hand. I'd feel better about it if I had someone there who knew what they were doing.
