Overheating problem
OK, so when i drive my car its fine in town but when i get on the highway for longer than about 10 miles the temp gauge goes up to about 3/4s and i lose all heat. so i figure it was my thermostat well after i broke a bolt in the thermostat housing and fixed all that mess i got the new thermostat in.. On my way to work this morning hoping everything is fixed. i watch my temp gauge rise to about 3/4s and i lose all heat again. i have no idea wtf is going. please help me lol

Have you bled the coolant to make sure all of the air is out?

what does a heater core have to do with overheating?
when was the last time the waterpump was replaced? the fins on them do deteriorate and will not flow coolant. makes sense in your case because usually when this happens with the waterpump it will be fine driving around town going slow at slow rpms and then over heat and heater not work on hwy at faster speeds and rpms. after driving the car have you checked to see if both upper and lower radiator hoses are the same hotness?
otherwise...it could be your headgasket or radiator cap.

I've never replaced the water pump since I bought it so I have no idea. The temp cage does go up and down as I am driving it. Normaly it stays in the first 1/4 of the Gage . But since this started happening when I get on the highway it will rise to half and fluctuate to 3/4s and back down again repeatedly. Everytime it raises over half I lose heat. But I'm thinkin this could be from the terrain (hills and such) and the temp outside. (being below 40s)

im gonna have to agree with Mike on this one. I had this issue and it was my water pump and i had a failing coolant temp sensor.

haha no...terrain has nothing to do with anything... and niether does the outside temp. if you lived in alaska with -30 degree temps outside your heater will still be blowing hot.
