stripped head stud

Post by Redline »

Ok so on a d16a6 block I have I am pretty sure it'd got a stripped head stud. Every time I get it tight it just looses up again. Just wondering should I got a new block or do I have other opions

You might be able to get by with a helicoil in it but personally I would never trust those for something like a headbolt with the kind of torque they get applied to them.

Putting in a Timesert would probably be the best option, although more costly than a helicoil they can take the abuse and are much better.

For the cost involved it almost might be cheaper to source a used shortblock, you might check around to compare to doing the Timesert.

I looked into timeserts they seem great but costly and its a mildly stock block so I am just going to get a new bottom end.

Did you check with machine shops or just look at the kit prices to do it yourself?

In the case of Timeserts, machine shops are usually cheaper since they have a tooling to install them already and do not have to purchase it every time.
