D16y7 Smoking

Post by aGUNS »

I have a D16y7 in my crx. its smoking.
I cant tell whether its my piston rings or valve seals.

It smokes when it starts up, and until its warm it smokes. but it will smoke in low gears until its warm. You can smell it also.
Its smoking light grey/blue smoke.

Is there anyone on here who knows/can replace these? This crx is my daily driver.
I dont have a lot of money to pour into it, but i want to fix it before it gets worse.

Any ideas?

if it mainly smokes after its been sitting for a couple of hours or more upon startup and then seems to stop. its most likely your valve seals.

however, if it smokes all the time when youre driving it, its more likely to be the rings.

or i could be a combination of both the rings and valve seals.

I agree with Rick. It's either one, the other, or both.

Like I said on fb, try doing an oil change with Rotella-T. You can buy it at O'reillys and it's not expensive. By my second oil change it had softened up my valve seals and the car quit smoking, that was 3 years ago and I continue to use that and still have no issues. It's not necessarily a "cure" but it works great and gives you time to save up to have the job done.
