99 ex coupe with high idle after cleaning

Post by DriftMyRide »

Like the title says i detailed my car the other day using the typical simple green spray down then carefully washed off the residue, got the engine bay very clean however a few days later i noticed the car gradually started idleing higher and higher. Right now it idles at about 2,400rpm.

I have been doing searches on other forums i heard that the two sensors in the intake may need cleaning/ replaced. Im not wanting to mess with the idle screw at this point because i find the circumstances to strange to mess with that yet. The throttle cable does seem a little loose however i heard that it is pretty normal for it to be slightly loose. Any ideas on what may be wrong?

I'd suspect a vacuum leak. Check over all of your vacuum lines and I'm guessing you'll end up finding one that has a hole in it, has fallen off, etc. On 96-00 Civics, there is only one piece that affects idle and that's the IACV. The TICV's last year was 95 on the Civic.

I'm thinking you'll find your problem in a vacuum leak. If you want to make it easy, remove each line from the intake manifold, one by one, and block the nipple on the intake up with your finger. I'm guessing when you block one of them, the idle will drop back down. Once that happens, inspect that vacuum line and all components that hook to it.

The above is assuming you have no CEL...

ya sounds like a vacuum leak to me if there is no cel lights. I doubt its the iacv cause if it was clogged it wouldnt idle. Air wouldn't be able to pass through it causing to to die not rev up. Unless it was stuck open that would be a bad thing lol. What we always did was took a little bit of ether and sprayed a little on the vacuums lines the engine will rev up a bit when it sucked the ether in
