Built Bottom End on Stock Head

Post by UMR Racer »

Found this add on a columbus shop forum and wanted to know if this would be a better option for my car (2001 GSR) than just putting in a jdm long block in because the only thing wrong with mine is the bottom end. Could I run this build on a stock top end with a stock ECU.

Built B18C1: Already Assembled
Zero (0) miles
B18C1 GSR Block
B18C1 GSR Crank
GE HD Sleeves
Bored out to 86MM
CP 13:1 compression pistons
Crower ultra light rods
New bearings/rings
Block Guard
This block has 0 miles. Has never been ran.
This is Scotto's old block. Was built by him and Fowler

86mm.......jebus

Thats alot of money for something you dont know works and doesnt have a warranty.

Yes it will bolt up and no it wont work with your stock ecu.

You will have to convert to OBD-1 and get it tuned to run with that setup

86mm is like a 5mm overbore on each cylinder. If that actually was done to that engine i would stay as far away as possible. The largest bore for b-series is 84.5mm. 86 is just rediculous or an error in the listing.

id pass on it and just buck up and buy the jdm swap. Also account that when you sell your current bad motor, you still can get about $500-800 for it parted out.

it says its sleeved... it could be cut out to 86...

but that is about as big as it can go, if it pops, you'll probably need to resleeve to rebuild.

also, to utilize 13:1 compression, you'd need bigger cams and a tune... which means obd1 and all new valvetrain for the head. all and all, its not what you are looking for.

Im pretty sure even resleved 86 is too big.

84.5 is usually max for F/I setups and 85mm is for N/A builds. If you can find a 86mm resleved block from a Reputable company/ person please feel free to post up the link..

Considering Dart blocks max out at 84.5mm not 86mm there is a reason why its not done.

why do companies like Endyne make pistons for bores up to 86.5 then?
http://theoldone.com/components/pistons/index.html

and darton make sleeves with 86mm bores?

and Crower makes a stroker kit specifically designed for an 87mm bore?

granted going that high is a huge stress on the motor, and you would certainly not use it as a daily, but there are options available to push b-series out into the 86 range for use as drag/track cars. I kinda assumed this was all common knowledge tho
