Ok, I was wanting to stick with something simple/cheap to make a dependable, yet powerful daily driver. The current motor is a D16Y7. I've been told to mini-me it, etc. etc. Now for the questions.
Does anyone know the specs of a D16Z6?
The specs of a D16Y8?
Specs of a mini-me Y7-Y8?
Mini-me Y7-Z6?
I am just curious as to which of those has the most power and which is the most dependable. Pretty much, those are the four things I am deciding on to make the platform of my project, and I was wondering which is the best one and why? Thanks,
Chris

Engine swap questions
Specs as in hp/tq, year the engine is and stuff so I will be able to find parts for it. Also, what all will I need to make the swap?
EDIT: Yeah, I was thinking that I had saw somewhere that the Y8 made a few more hp than the Z6, but I wasn't sure as to exactly how much hp each engine made. Also, wasn't sure if a mini-me would make more, or if it would be the best way to go or not.
EDIT: What I meant by year and stuff is like what kind of vehicle does it come from. I just looked it up and it said a 96-00 EX, is this correct? Gonna need to know that kind of info if I am going to be making the swap, because that is what I am going to have to type in at websites in order to get the correct parts. Also, since the Y8 is coming from the 96-00 (if that is correct), is it also an OBD2 like mine? So am I going to have to convert it to OBD1? What would be the best ECU to swap it to?

The hp/tq will be different on every setup due to lots of different variables, but don't expect more then 120whp and 105 lb.-ft. tq. with any of these setups. Most will likely put you at about 115whp and about 100 lb.-ft. tq. Heres what you need to do the Y7 block with Y8 head...Blue Wolf;55453 wrote:Specs as in hp/tq, year the engine is and stuff so I will be able to find parts for it. List of Parts:
Required:
D16Y8 Cylinder Head (Including distributor, cap, valve cover, plugs/wires, VTEC solenoid, etc)
D16Z6 or D16Y8 Head Gasket
P2P ECU
D16Y8 Timing Belt
Wire and plug for VTEC oil pressure switch
Optional:
D16Z6 or Y8 Intake Manifold
D16Z6 or Y8 Exhaust Manifold
*If you remove your manifolds, make sure you get new gaskets
Recommended:
NEW OEM-
Water Pump (for the block you are using)
Spark Plugs (EX D16Y8)
Spark Plug Wires
Valve Cover Gasket
Distributor cap and rotor
To do the Y7 block with a Z6 head, you will need everything listed above plus one head bolt from any 88-95 D15/16. You will need to install that head bolt in the top left corner of the motor when looking at the car head on. Its right next to the VTEC solenoid.

Engine swap questions
Hmm well I have been thinking about just swapping to a full Y8, and was just here to confirm that that would be the better of those four options, and it is seeming to be. So what is the info on one of those? Like the year/type of car it comes from and stuff/how much it might be? The basics pretty much on what I am going to need to save/get/and then what I will need to know in order to get the parts for that engine (96-00 EX as stated bove)?

The Y8 makes a few more horsepower due to the head having smaller combustion chambers, therefore increasing compression. 9/10 times, an I/H/E Y8 will make more power then a n I/H/E mini-me.Blue Wolf;55453 wrote: EDIT: Yeah, I was thinking that I had saw somewhere that the Y8 made a few more hp than the Z6, but I wasn't sure as to exactly how much hp each engine made. The D16Z6 came in 1992-1995 Honda Civic EX/Si OBD-1
The D16Y8 came in 1996-2000 Honda Civic EX OBD-2
Theres no need to convert to OBD-1 if you don't want to. Just use a P2P ECU.

Ok that's what I thought, 96-00 EX. Ok, what is a P2P ECU? What's the difference between that and an OBD1? Which is better in your opinion and why? Lol, sorry for all the questions, just wanting to find out the basics and stuff before I go and do an engine swap a little later down the line.
