Stackable Head Gasket
The Mr. Gasket stackable head gasket p/n 6225. Anybody use one, have any long term problems? I've read good and bad but I wouldn't think that Mr. Gasket would make a gasket that sucks as much as some people say. Just wanting to lower the CR a little(detonation=bad) and don't have the money for pistons/rods right now.

what are you looking to do. if you're going to raise or keep the same compression. get yourself a favor and get the d16y7/d16y8(they are the same) metal headgasket OEM #12251-P2J-004 it's a 3ply hg. if you're going to rasie the compression remove the middle layer. the difference between this hg and the d16z6 nothing and $20. the d16y7/8 is $23 and the d16z6 is $43. and they are the same hg.

So according to your advise if I go with the d16y8 hg I will lower compression and if I take a layer out I will also lower compression. I will pass on this information, but thank you for playing. Also, Grammar>you!remoer;47123 wrote:what are you looking to do. if you're going to lower or keep the same compression. get yourself a favor and get the d16y7/d16y8(they are the same) metal headgasket OEM #12251-P2J-004 it's a 3ply hg. if you're going to lower the compression remove the middle layer. the difference between this hg and the d16z6 nothing and $20. the d16y7/8 is $23 and the d16z6 is $43. and they are the same hg.

Ummm...wrong. If you remove the middle layer you RAISE compression, not lower it.remoer;47123 wrote:what are you looking to do. if you're going to lower or keep the same compression. get yourself a favor and get the d16y7/d16y8(they are the same) metal headgasket OEM #12251-P2J-004 it's a 3ply hg. if you're going to lower the compression remove the middle layer. the difference between this hg and the d16z6 nothing and $20. the d16y7/8 is $23 and the d16z6 is $43. and they are the same hg.

Mr. Gasket designed it that way, I would hope they're not complete idiots. And I've replaced my fair share of head gaskets.

it just doesnt seem like the best way to lower your compression. is your setup not doing well on 93?

Actually, changing head gasket thickness is one of the best ways to change your compression ratio. I've never used or seen the stackable gaskets but the two layer HG mod is the cheapest, easiest, and safest way to raise the compression on a D. You can order a specific HG thickness through Cometic based on what your needs are.bildo16;47328 wrote:it just doesnt seem like the best way to lower your compression. is your setup not doing well on 93?

To find out what thickness you need based on your desired compression ratio, use the compression calculator on Zeal Autowerks website. Its by far the best one out there.

Remember, a thinner HG will net you HIGHER compression, a thicker HG will net you lower compression.
