DIY: wire tuck

Post by N2HIFI »

well since i ami in the process of swapping the ef from a d2b i figured i would go ahead and do a wire tuck on the ef also. So i decided i would make a little DIY out of it and post up some pics. That way people wanting to do this also would have a refrence. This is my second complete tuck,my crx was in my opinion about 80% tucked i could have relocated more stuff now that i think about it. So based on that this will be a about 95% tuck but no shaving .. its a DD/shop car not a "hardparker".

You really have to make a desicion on how far you want to take it, i am relocating my fuse box, lighting harness, map sensor, resistor box, main harness connectors, overflow tank, washer fluid tank, battery and tucking all the wire on the motor. Now you dont have to do all this just to clean up the engine bay, you can simply re route alot of wires and cleqan up the bay quickly with no cutting or extending wires. But the more you hide the better it will look.

This would be point a my starting point and what i am working with

ok lets get the motor out of the way
Image
ok now where to start. lets start here and move the battery+tray+ grounds
Image
ok now lets lose the fuse holder/powerwire/headlight wires and relays
Image
ok thats out of the way what now.. ok the fuse box and, mapsensor and wiper wiring
Image
but where is it going to go now? through that big grommet right here
Image
ok now that is where on the inside of the car.. under the factory sound deadener and right above the ecu in a ef

DIY: wire tuck

ok found the hole now what.. well pull the grommet out and then pull the harness (which you disconnected from the fuse box etc.) into the car and then reconnect the wires to the fuse box.

now at this point you have ALOT of desicions to make. Do you want to do a full tuck? or just a partial. Because at this point you can still cut and extend the headlight/parkinglight/turn signals and horn wires and route them back out into the engine bay and then through the fender well and then back out to their respective locations. OR do you want to be like the big boys and tuck it all .. if this is the case your going to have to figure out how you want to extend the wiring and where you want to route the lighting harness so it cant be seen, you do not want to route it back into the enigne bay (your trying to hide wires not just move them) you want to route them a totaly different way so as they can be seen and it must also be done safly and properly so as not to cause any issues down the road.

I personaly drill a hole next to the factory door boot in the door jam and routed all the wires here after making a extension harness out of factory gauge wires (i also made a new wiring chart so i know what colors are what and where they are located and what they do ..this way if i have any wiring issues down the road anybody can work on the car) so i ran all my lighting harness wiring out the new hole along the inner fender and used loom and cable clamps the secure and protect the wiring as it runs through the wheel well.

I have 75% of the passanger side of the car done , i still have to mount the fuse box and add a power distribution center under the passanger seat to ditribute power to the starter, fuse box and alt that way its even less wiring to cluter under the dash and engine bay.

i will post progress pics as i continue to work on the car, i hope to have this done tommorrow or friday night and be reinstalling the motor sat and driving the car sunday so we will see how it goes
