need a sound setup for my '00 si

Post by fry »

I am looking to do some audio work to my car. the shitty xplode headunit and xplode speakers aren't cutting it.

I listen to a lot of metal/screamo/emo/indie shit, and i want a really balanced system.

I want to be able to hear the bass drum and bass guitar just as well as i hear the guitar and vocals. I dont need some rediculously loud bassy ass system that rattles peoples houses, but i want good sound quallity. anyone have any suggestions? i've never had anything but stock shit in my cars (with the exception of head units). and i dont want to spend a dickload of money.

I work at best buy so all the stuff i'm going to tell you about is because thats basically all I know.

What i like:
the new polk speakers have an amazing cone design and have good sound quality. A very balanced sound.
Same thing with the alpine type s
I also really like the inifinity kappa and kappa perfect series but they put out more high (treble) than an all around sound like the other 2 speakers.

As for as the head unit, i'd go with alpine. just depends on what kind of features your looking for in a head unit. Alpine is a bit more pricey but there is a reason for that.

I also personally like alpine for decks, but mainly their higher models. I have the 9886.

Polks do have really good sound quality to them, same as their subs.

Overall, do a good radio, good set of front components on a 2 channel amp. And even a 12inch Type E on a small amp would be enough bass for a SQ system. Also be sure to add dynamat or some type of sound deadning around your door speakers, for that extra midbass responce.

As far as components go, I have the oversized 6.5inch Diamond D6s and love them. They retail for over $400, but you can usually find them for $200. They put out a ton of midbass for that extra kick. I have them on a 200.2 that does about 75rms per channel. That combined with a 10 or 12inch sub in a sealed box, would be a perfect setup.

MOST of the products ill say to buy, you wont find locally. But yes, on a day to day basis, most of us are more familiar with what we sell.
