09 Pontiac G5 with blown motor

Post by 99SilverCX »

I don't know the specifics as of yet, but have a friend who blew the motor, she said it sprung an oil leak that she didn't notice, got a quote from a shop for 2grand to fix it, I've looked on Ebay and looks like these engines go for 600-1000, so I'm thinking about just swapping an engine for her, the only thing is I've never worked on one of these, anyone know how hard it is or is willing to lend a hand? I'll buy beer and pizza or something like that.

Does it have an ecotec, those are pretty easy to install as long as you have the right tools. (jacks, jack stands, and an engine hoist)

Should be pretty Damn easy. Since its an 09 I'm pretty sure that's the lap motor so make sure when your looking at motors its qouting you the lap and not the older l61. Also it hasn't been done but an le5 might swap I'm as well. The lap and le5 are both gen 2 blocks with vvt heads.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you.
Hope this helps

I actually just swapped my wifes 07 g5 cause it threw a rod. Opted for the 2.4 cobalt motor. I got my motor shipped for 700$ from carparts.com. it was super easy, I mean my 1 year old could do it.

Did you just use the bottom end of the 2.4? Because to my knowledge the 2.2 in the 07's is the older non vvt 2.2 l61 engine.
