1989 Firebird 305 5.0

Post by MaSSaCrE »

Well this is my little project I picked up for $300. It has a 91 Front nose and was orginally a v6 car but swapped to a 305 5.0. Has a z28 posi rear end and some sort of dual exhaust that was angled shitty but ill fix it. . It has a bad bend in the fender and some dents so im gonna pull it all and replace then do the paint.Other then that the paint is perfect condition pretty much.Only have two shitty pictures but you get the picture

Body Shop still owes the family alot of money so ill be getting All dents and dings from hail\etc over the years pulled and instead of keeping the metalic sparkle type 70's stingray blue im going with grand sport blue

Upcoming buys\mods over the next month few months:
225/70/14 BF Goodrich T\A Radials
New center console
New carpet
New Headliner
Eibach Springs
Kyb Gr2 Struts
Flipscreen headunit
Infinity Front Speakers
Few bolt ons

The car has a fuel problem though so I cant get it to stay running. Just got my fuel pressure gauge to start the first elimination of what could be wrong

The stock wheel size is 15x7 fyi

Im guessing they just threw in a carbed 305 (Lg4? LO3?) or did they swap in a TPI 305 (LB9?)

Do yourself a favor and sign up for team3rdgen.com. They are mostly locals and are mostly good guys over there. They can help you out with it. Honestly for you car if you can id just try to find some stock 16 inch wheels or run adapters and run 4th gen wheels.

The 305 can be made to put out some power but going with a 350/383 is a better route or my favorite 377/406 Route.

one of the best cheap catbacks is the Hooker Aerochamber which sounds mean and looks pretty good (300 for the catback)
I never liked the Chokebastard (Flowmaster) catbacks for these cars though a lot run them. A good set of headers will help out a good amount. Also an ignition system does seem to help.

I had the Edelbrocks on my 89 RS (Eibach pro) and everyone called my RS the frame scrapper. it rode pretty low obviously but was nice driving especially on the highway.

Though honestly with exhaust and an open element air filter if its an Auto LO3/LG4/LB9 car the best your looking at with stock gearing and stall is mid to high 15's.

My 89 RS with a hooker catback advanced timing Crane Hi6s Ignition open element air filter with 170,xxx miles on the stock 700r4 trans stock stall with 2.73 rear gearing ran 15.7's all day. It sounds a lot stronger than it was lol

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you.
Hope this helps
