Not to highjack the thread, but bodywork seems like a pretty good set up, good income potential too99preludesh;108348 wrote:I went to Ranken for Auto COllision Repair and graduated in Dec. 06 and it was the best thing I have ever done. How did your training translate into employment opportunity? Did Ranken training carry weight?
Also don't take this the wrong way, but did being a gal in a traditionally male job also help? I ask 'cause I have a friends who's looking into this and I've thought body work would be a good deal and want to see if Ranken holds is weight in the market place

Well the training was very good but of course they cant train you EVERYTHING that needs to be known you just kinda pick it up as you go.GTI-Guy;108356 wrote:Not to highjack the thread, but bodywork seems like a pretty good set up, good income potential too

Being a gal in the field is actually a down fall. I have gone to MANY shops and been turned down. Was even laughed at by a shop that I wont disclose their name. Its hard being a chick in a mans world, because you arent appreciated like a man would be in that field. You have to start from the VERY bottom and work your way up and prove to them you know what you are doing.
The autobody industry is failing at the moment and is super slow pretty much everywhere and no one is really hiring, but for some odd reason EVERYONE wants little side jobs done which is a good thing.

I go to Ranken and I agree with what Steph says, don't expect to be a pro when you graduate, there's alot of things you will have to pick up as you go when you're in the field and the real world.
