Advice! Keep Integra or S13

Post by .Smitty. »

First, I figure that more people frequent the Lounge than any other spot on STLHondas, but if this ends up being in the wrong section, my apologies and you can move it wherever it should be.

Over the winter, some of you may have seen me fail at realizing how much money it takes to turbocharge a car including tune, engine management, etc. I sold off my parts and saved up for some wheels instead. 15" Konig Heliums with Azenis (80% tread left) with Skunk2 lugs for $525 shipped. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

Now that it's warming up, and the windows are down and sunroof is back, I'm still left itching for a little more power than my GSR is putting out. I've been glued to the Official 240SX thread on H-T and have become fond of the S13 coupes with Silvia fronts. If I could find a SR20 S13, even without the Silvia front, for cheaper than I sell my Integra for, I could have a little left over for mods/bank. I'd also have a fun car with RWD and turbo. With a few mods on top of the SR, I could put down some good numbers for a lot less than the >2K I was going to spend on piecing a turbo kit together for the GSR.

My problem is that I love the car! It's rare being ABP (adriatic blue pearl), sedan, GSR, and a 98 all in one. I made an Official ABP thread on H-T and only had two other ABP sedan Integras post. You cannot beat the reliabilty of these, the gas mileage is unbelievable, especially with prices lately, and I am a Honda fan at heart. I am extremely jealous of UMRacer, who has the internship with Honda of Ohio. Put simply, I'm in love with not only the car, but also Honda in general.

So, STLHondas, help me out! What should I do? Anyone ever own both and have an opinion? I know that here I'll get an obvious bias towards Hondas, which is why I posted a thread over on DriftSTL, too.

Thanks for your help!

i sold me honda at first for a 240sx n i drove it for almost a year. good guys on driftstl and they know there stuff! but personally i missed my civics... but rwd is awesome but scarry... but idk if ull find a cheap s13 with no rust and a sr20 swap for around 4000... fyi. there was one but idk. but if u sell ur car then by a 240sx STOCK WITH A 5 SPEED and have the driftstl guys help u swap over an sr20 (zenkies14 has a buddy named dewey with 10 COMPLETE sr20 swaps for 2200! he came from japan and drove then before he brought them here...) it will take 2 days tops maybe a day... but ur not gonna find a clean one for cheap unless it needs a motor in which it will be good for you. but 240 parts are way more expensive then honda parts all day long! but its on u... id keep the gsr n boost away..

cliff notes (keep ur gsr)

Keep the integra, have you ever been in a 240? The quality of a 240 is no where near that of an integra, and I'm talking about da integras. So there is no way it would compare to your 98 gizzer. Think of all the shit you'll be spending money on that isn't even performance related, just to keep the car on the road.

240sx $0-$3,000, sr swap 3K-5K, if you can't afford a turbo kit for your integra, how are you going to afford this. Ya rwd and drifting is cool, but drifting is about as big of a pipe dream as having a nice 240sx that's swapped and runs right.

If anyone is on DriftSTL, you can check this out: http://www.driftstl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10470.

For those that cannot, it's a 1992 S13 Coupe. Comes with the stock KA, runs good, no rust, etc. New front bumper, battery relocated, some other misc. stuff done. BUT, the good thing is that it comes with an SR. It has a blown headgasket, but comes with a brand new HKS 1.2mm, Blitz intercooler and piping, C&C radiator, new 550 injectors, tuned ECU, GT28 turbo, new manifold, etc. all ready to be swapped into the car. Sells with swap for $4700.

And yes, I agree that there is no way I'd be able to afford a turbo kit for my Integra or a swap for a 240 if I bought one seperate, but with a deal like that, I could afford some new paint and a good set of coilovers.

I will say, having just bought my honda and owning a 240 for nearly two years, there are pros and cons of both. just focusing on the 240 though, overall they are great cars. Lots of fun, easy to work on, rwd, they look great. But putting an sr20 in the car is a whole new world. From what i've heard they are like most cars, reliable until you run em too hard. the aftermarket support for the motor is nearly as much as a b series. drifting is fun, but tons of wear and stress on a car. asking an advice question like this on a honda site will give you a bias answer. keep looking around, and really think about what you're looking for in a car. I think you'll be happy with either choice, but you will either miss your gsr, or still wish you had a 240. good luck on your decision!

The only thing a 240 is good for is a toy. Unreliable, everything rattles......stick with the teg, its hella clean. I have 2 friends that both bought S14s and sold their civics. This summer they are already coming back to the Honda family....they learned their lesson.

I had a cousin with a 240 and my sisters ex-fiance also had one..They would make awesome project cars, but overall, as they stood, I wasn't impressed with them.
