An irritating subject to discuss

SO I was reading that thread on STLSR about the pits and how people think its the dog and not the owner.

I would like to get everyones opinion on this subject.

I didn't watch the video because I don't like watching that stuff at all but heres the video

an agressive animal is an agressive animal, some come aggressive from birth and they are trained to be people friendly, some are people friendly from birth. if an animal attacks no matter what it is, normally you would either stun it to keep it from attacking you or kill it, if i was being attacked by a pitbull, german shepard, or any other animal that wasnt military trained, i would probably shoot it. Granted there are a handful of circomstances like if the dog attacked without being ordered but taken under control right after by a trainer, i wouldnt shoot it. But a stray or loose dog attacking me without its owner trying to stop him, bam. sorry but if your dog attacks, its a threat to society.

Welp...this is obviously a very complex issue...I don't have time right now to discuss it in full, but my take on it is this. Both the owner and the animal are responsible for the animal's aggression. As John said, genetics can produce fierce and dosile pitts. Depending on when the owner acquires the pitt is also a great factor; as well as the owners themselves. Just like with any other dog, it very often takes on attribues of it's owner. Training is also a huge part of the problem/solution.

I think that pitts get bad rep because 1. they are strong dogs 2. they have a history of being used for dog fighting and 3. many pitt owners don't know how to properly train a dog (ANY dog). Those 3 combined created this animosity you see today.
