In 1983 Chevrolet released a new model of its 4th generation Monte Carlo designed to bring NASCAR style to the lineup, it was called the SS. This model featured a more aerodynamic front clip, special graphics and 5 spoke wheels, sport suspension, a 305ci V8 and a rear spoiler.
The next year a few of these SS models were built in the Mexican Chevrolet factory, these Monte Carlo SSs only ran for one year and were VERY different from the United States versions.
First off is the visual difference on the exterior. The Mexican SS featured different graphics along the side of the car, they also had the "checkerboard" wheels (which was the standard wheel on base model US Monte Carlos). There is also a lack of a rear spolier, even though the aerodynamic front end stayed. Side mirrors were also normal, as opposed to the usual "sport" mirrors. Color availability is unkown, but white and black ones have both been found.
Next is the interior, which was stolen directly from the same year Pontiac Grand Prixs (except for the SS logo stitched into the headrest) and only came in one color, blue. Unlike the US models, the only window/lock combination available was power locks with manual windows.
The biggest change however came in the drivetrain. The Mexican Monte Carlo SSs were the fastest production cars in Mexico at the time. They were powered by a 350ci 265hp, 350lb/ft V8 connected to a 4 speed manual transmission with a Hurst shifter!
exact production numbers have not yet been found.

This white one below has been modified with sport mirrors and new striping, the text is original though.
