has anybody here hydrolocked an engine from a CAI
back in the late 90s i was rockin an 89 corolla with an intake tube going down into the front bumper with a k&n on the end of it. there were times when i was workin at ups that i would blast up mo bottoms in the middle of winter, streets unplowed, get home and look at my intake in the bumper and it would look like a snowball on the end of an aluminum tube! never once did the car bog or anything! just wondering if i had a fluke or something?

ok heres my theory, it's the fact that its snow, i think it takes a good deal of water to get sucked all the way up an intake tube, it has to be submerged fully in water for the vaccume to suck the water all the way up, the snow on it would probably melt slowly and i bet most of it just dripped off the snow itself or the bottom of the intake

in all honesty, if the snow wasnt that thick it probably HELPED your hp by coolng the air flow into your motor

i've came damn close before, sucked up water and the car bogged bigtime and smoked a little until it burnt the water out and on another occasion i ran my car through the automatic carwash to get the roadsalt off and it was still below freezing, needless to say my filter was a huge iceball and i had to limp home (30 mph to the floor) and put my filter in a sink of hotwater to thaw it back out. never again will i put a filter in the fender well

no.
...but I built my cai specifically to avoid it. AND I am careful when there are puddles.
I would also like to suggest that having a filter in teh d/s fenderwell vs. the p/s fenderwell will make a difference. roads are built on a slope so that water is directed to the outside, having a filter in the p/s well will increase teh chances of hydrolock. So in this case, K series has the advantage.
