This was approved last year, and effective in September 2007, for 1995 and olderonly.

LOL. Figures, everything 96+ is OBDII, so they just charge you $24 to plug your car into a computer, click a button and get a readout. 99.9% of all cars which are OBDII pass the test. It'll be hard for it to get shut down because the people running the stations are ROLLING in the cash, so they'll lean on gov't officials to keep it going.SlowOne.5;52990 wrote:This was approved last year, and effective in September 2007, for 1995 and olderonly.
1997 AIGSR.

correct, as of 9/07. There will still be safety inspections, but no more emissions.thsmrtone1;53245 wrote:so anyone with a 1995 or older car (pre obdII) will no longer have to get emissions?

as did i, but i just re-registered at my parent's house again near chicago. i've been doing that for 3years now.thsmrtone1;53252 wrote:damnit, they are about 4 months too late... i had to get emissions like 2 months ago...
the new cars will probably be registered in IL as well. this whole property tax on cars is absolutely retarded, and will be pretty costly for me w/ what i'll be buying.
i'd rather pay the state of IL $98-108 a year to stay plated, and be done with it.
