I just don't understand why can't they just bring the SAME SHIT over here. We always get a watered down version. They have a 222hp engine. We have a watered 197hp. Just bring it over here. The market is definately there. Not just Hondas either. I would love to have a bugeye Sti or an s202.

costs. all these badass cars would have to be setup for LHD, then detuned for smog emissions, altered for safety tests (crash testing, new windshields, blah blah) not too mention our fuels are not nearly as high octane as foreign fuels, so that would decrease the performance right there. Even if there was a decent market for them over here, it still wouldn't be worth it, the costs are just too high. If they did decide to bring em over you know the price would be sky high anyway, most people would rather just save some money by buying the watered down version and get the rest of the horsepwer through aftermarket support.SweetEBPSi;39952 wrote:I just don't understand why can't they just bring the SAME SHIT over here. That may be true, but if you really think about it, they could do it without that much extra cost.budget_crx;39989 wrote:costs. all these badass cars would have to be setup for LHD, then detuned for smog emissions, altered for safety tests (crash testing, new windshields, blah blah) not too mention our fuels are not nearly as high octane as foreign fuels, so that would decrease the performance right there. I'll go through your post bit by bit.budget_crx;39989 wrote:costs. all these badass cars would have to be setup for LHD, then detuned for smog emissions, altered for safety tests (crash testing, new windshields, blah blah) not too mention our fuels are not nearly as high octane as foreign fuels, so that would decrease the performance right there. Coverting to LHD is not a valid issue. It has to get done anyways to be shipped over here. An engine will fit in a RHD just as easily. There is proof of that here with some of you with JDM engines in your cars. Its not like the tranny needs to be mounted to the other side of the engine due to the steering.<----Thats definately not an issue now because steering is done electronically. Crash tests have to be done regardless of what country the car is going to.
As for the fuel and the detuning. Well, that may be true, but I would think that Honda has a big enough R&D department to figure out how to bring the hp back up to the JDM level while using our fuel ratings. Yes, it may cost to do the research, but they would technically only have to do it 1 major time. Then they can just apply that theory to the future generations. After all, when you boil everything down, it is just physics. And that doesn't change.
Funny that you mention people would buy a watered down version and just buy performance parts. Wouldn't that almost equal out? Besides, if something this did happen, I highly doubt that it would raise the cost to the vehicles since the market is great over here. Thats just what I think.

Converting to LHD would be an isssue seeing as that the Type R, for example, is more than just a Civic Si with a more powerful engine, so its more than just an engine swap. It has a different suspension setup, different body panels, lights and even interior pieces. So it wouldn't be that Honda was taking the Civics that were already in the states and giving them more umpph, its actually a "whole new car."
If Honda altered the computer or what not to give the US versions more power while keeping the lower octane ratings, why wouldn't they use the same technology on the JDM cars for even more power over there? Either way our versions will be watered down.
Aftermarket parts are almost ALWAYS cheaper. taking an Si and getting an extra 30hp out of it would probably still be less than the difference between the Si and the Type R price (thanks to a HUGE aftermarket support for Hondas and lots of competitive pricing). If the market for these cars were actually big enough like you say, the companies would already have those cars over here. They are out to make profit, so what would be stopping them from sending em over? they wont make a profit. why? see my above post. lol
