95 GSR running like crap now...

My 95' GSR was sitting for about 6 months with a full tank and it has 140k miles. It had a little suspension issue from hitting a curb so I towed it to the garage. well I fixed the suspension and let it idle awhile and decided to clean off the engine by power spraying it. So when I did it began to run like crap (not sure if this is part of the real issue). So I left it and the next day changed the plugs, air filter, and oil. THe wires look good as did the cap and rotor. I saw no sign of water and the car idled good. Anyway I took it for a test drive to see how it pulled and chaos happened.... When I punch it the rpm gauge goes crazy and doesnt work (not like slipping clutch but bounces and jumps), the car runs like a badly tuned turbo car that is loading up, and vtec does not kick in at all. Yet the car and gauge cluster works good until about 3k RPMS when driven normally. I realize there could be a few issues here, but here has what Ive checked so far and will note:

1- pulled distrutor cap and saw no water and it looked good along with rotor.
2- Engine light is not on at all, but it is functioning. when I turn the car in the start position it lights up and turns off normally.
3- I was thinking fuel such as old gas or possibly clogged fuel filter. I am going to change the filter and put some stabilizer in it tomorrow.

other than that I am lost on this one and dont know where to begin? all help is greatly appreciated.

Change the fuel filter, and go through and check all grounds and clean them if need be. If that doesnt help, check all the fuses and battery connections.

If nothing changes, have the battery and altenator tested to make sure there working properly.

If it still does it, start checking all the sensors on the engine, make sure there clean, working order, and the plugs are all connected correctly.

unplug all terminals and make sure they are clean but first i would check the distributor plugs that clip to the engine harness

ignitor in dizzy is possibly having an issue aswell.

water water water dizzy dizzy dizzy. i have a few dizzys u can swap with to eliminate the problem.

I tried everything noted on this thread and nothing worked although I did notice that vtec was kicking in. I even tried a new battery, fuel filter, fuel cleaner, and heat..I have not tried a different ecu yet.

for anyone in the future- it was a problem inside the distributor.
